How To Cure Insomnia From Restless Mind
Insomnia happens when we are not able to sleep or lack the ability to achieve adequate sleep. Some people take sleeping pills. Although it might help some of us, sleeping pills do have side effects. Furthermore, sleeping pill is not a cure for insomnia. We can overcome insomnia by achieving peace of mind from the restless state of mind that we have due to various factors affecting our life everyday.
For example, there are times when we experience something that really occupied our mind. This caused us to keep thinking about it and our mind become restless about it.
For instance, we had wrongly submitted a work or an assignment that can cause major problems in our team or others in our company. Or we had engage in a big quarrel with someone close to us. All of these can lead us to keep thinking about the issues. If we do not properly control our mind, it will actively continue to think various aspects related to these problems. When this happen, many times, even if our eyes are firmly closed, it become very difficult to fall asleep.
For some people, even less problematic daily issue in their lives can also become very troublesome for them and let them to keep thinking about it while trying to fall asleep at night.
All these are part of insomnia. So, how do we deal with this problem of sleep disorder?
Here is a list of things that you should try to do to overcome insomnia as a result of restless mind.
- Realize the truth and be realistic about it. There are things that are simply out of our controls. Even if we keep thinking about them, the problems could not be solved without taking certain necessary actions.
- Consciously remind yourself to stop further thinking about it. Stop thinking about all the causes and the effects such as - what caused the problem, who should be blamed for it, partially or totally, what would be the effects or consequences. Remember that this thing had already happen. Pointing fingers alone (even blaming totally on yourself) would not solve the problem. Be strong and simply force yourself to stop thinking about it altogether.
- If you are at fault, sincerely admit it. Learn from the mistake. Promise yourself that you are going to improve on how you handle the work next time. If it's the fault of others, try not to be mad at them. Realize that everyone make mistakes. Inform them tomorrow about the mistake that they had made. Try to be calm in explaining to them.
- Now, focus on how to solve the problem. Look at the overall picture of the problem. What are the options. Determine what you can do, and what you cannot do. Always ask God for guidance and a way out. Determine the steps that you can do to solve the problem immediately or the next day.
- If you can't find the way to solve the problem because of too many variables that are out of your hands, then realize that everything happens for a reason. Problem is from God and solution or a way out is also from God. And God will never give us issues that are beyond our capabilities to handle them. Realize that you are part of the whole picture, scenario or problem. It's time that you stop thinking about it altogether for the day. You had done your best to find the solution. For now, leave it to God. Everything is from God and He controls everything. He knows what's best for us. Remember, you are not running away from your problem. If He let us breath again tomorrow, let's continue finding the solution to your problem. And always ask for His guidance and a way out.
Note: When we forget or are not convinced that everything is from God and the fact that He controls everything, anything happening to us that is beyond our control or seems that we cannot find a way out, would most likely lead to the feeling of tension, anxiety, upset, stress, frustration, depression and even going crazy. Simply realizing this truth can have a lasting phenomenal positive effects on our life.
- Peaceful Mind. Once you start feeling tired and sleepy, go to sleep and free your mind from all of these issues. Feel His present in your heart as you try to fall asleep until you finally fall asleep. Peace of mind can be achieved when we are at peace with our Creator.
